How I Accidentally Do 1,000 Pushups a Week—With an ADD Brain Hack
Boost Your Fitness and Focus: The ADD Brain Hack Behind 1,000 Weekly Pushups
Good Morning, Business for Breakfast!
Hey, everyone! Today I’m sharing how I “accidentally” do 1,000 pushups a week. Yep, you read that right—1,000! But for me, the secret is a little trick I play on my ADD brain to stay consistent and make it all feel like… fun.
ADD Meets Fitness
If you’re familiar with ADD, you know how it goes. My brain rebels against anything it doesn’t want to do. Years ago, I realized I had to find creative ways to get my mind to do what it needs to do. Now, as I train for a 2,000-mile charity bike ride, I’ve adapted my approach to exercise and fitness.
How the Pushup Routine Started
My pushup habit goes back to middle school, but the treadmill setup is new. I get on the treadmill at an incline, set to walk for an hour or two, and every five minutes, I hop off to do 20 pushups. My mind thinks it’s getting a “break,” but it’s actually working harder. “Everything in life is built on the reframe,” as I like to say. By making my mind believe it’s a treat, I’ve managed to make pushups part of my cardio.
The Math: 1,000 Pushups in a Week
With an hour on the treadmill, doing 20 pushups every five minutes, I easily clock around 200-260 pushups in a session. Multiply that by my weekly treadmill hours, and I hit over 1,000 pushups. It’s all about knowing yourself—“know thyself,” as Warren Buffett says—and reframing tasks to fit your strengths.
Get to Work!
So, there’s my routine. If you want to build any habit, figure out what your mind responds to, reframe it, and go for it. Remember, whether you think it’s hard or easy, you’re right. Now, let’s get to work!
